Making Your First Appointment: Brief Consultation

You must come to the mental health clinic in person to make your first appointment. When you arrive, you will complete some forms, then meet with a therapist for 15 to 20 minutes. The therapist will talk about your concerns, then schedule your next appointment with the most appropriate service for your needs.

First consultations take place in our East Bank Clinic, 410 Church Street, S.E., Minneapolis:
M, T, W, F 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Th 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
You might experience some wait especially during lunch and late afternoons.

Urgent Mental Health Care    

If you are experiencing a crisis that requires immediate attention, call our urgent care counselor 612-625-8475 during business hours or walk in to our East Bank mental health clinic.

Who can be seen at Boynton Mental Health?

Boynton Mental Health is open to University of Minnesota Twin Cities students who are:

  • Enrolled full time, and
  • Studying for a degree, and
  • Pay the Student Services Fee.
  • Or are Graduate Assistants who are enrolled in the Graduate Assistant Health Plan.

Mental health services are not open to staff and faculty.


How much will my visit cost?

It depends on your health insurance and whether you pay the Student Services Fee.

A co-payment at the time of your visit may apply. Any remaining costs for your care may be billed to you at a later time. Amounts vary by insurance plan. Consult your insurance card, or contact your health insurance provider for details.

With some exceptions, students who pay the Student Services Fee receive most services at Boynton at reduced cost. See details about the Student Services Fee.
