Expand all

What should I bring to my visit?

Bring a list of all the countries you visit, including airport layovers. Please also bring any record of past vaccinations.

Who can be seen in Boynton Travel Clinic?

We are open to patients 12 years and older who are UMN students and their dependents.

How long is my travel clinic appointment?

Please allow 90 minutes for the travel clinic appointment; this breaks down into a 45-minute consultation with the provider, followed by up to 45 minutes with a nurse or pharmacist who will administer your vaccinations and update your yellow card.

Will health insurance cover my travel consult and vaccines?

Most US insurance plans do not cover the cost of the travel clinic consultation. For UofM students enrolled full-time and paying student service fees (SSF), the cost of the Boynton Travel Clinic consultation may be fully covered, in contrast to travel care off campus.

Travel vaccine coverage is a separate matter. US insurance plans may not cover certain travel vaccines, e.g. cholera, Japanese encephalitis, rabies (preexposure prophylaxis), typhoid, yellow fever.
For UofM students enrolled full-time and paying student service fees (SSF), even if the travel consultation is fully covered, the cost of travel vaccines may not be covered by private US insurance plans.

For UofM students enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP), all travel immunizations are fully covered, except the oral cholera vaccine, which is covered at 80%.

For UofM students enrolled in the Graduate Assistant Health Plan (GAHP), all travel immunizations are fully covered.
