The Student Services Fee (SSF) helps subsidize the cost of care for students at Boynton that may not be covered by health insurance. The SSF also allows us to provide public health and health promotion services that improve the health of the campus community.
Student Services Fee Limitations
SSF benefits only apply to care at Boynton Health for students with active health insurance coverage. SSF benefits do not apply to visits at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, Hennepin County Medical Center or any other facility. Check with your health insurance provider about coverage for care at other locations.
The SSF can only be applied during the semester it is paid.
Billing and the Student Services Fee
After billing your health insurance and applying your Student Services Fee to the cost of your visit, you can expect most Boynton services at no additional out-of-pocket cost — with some exceptions.
Not covered by the Student Services Fee:
- Dental care (check your dental insurance to see if our clinic is in their network)
- Prescription medications
- Medical supplies
- Immunizations, vaccines (except HPV for ages 9-26, flu, and Tdap, which are covered)
- Contact lens fitting and follow-up care
- Eyewear: glasses, frames, lenses; contact lenses, etc.
- CPR classes
- Physical therapy (co-pay)
- Physical examination for the completion of a form*
*A physical examination performed for the completion of a form — for example to satisfy employment, athletic, academic or immigration requirements, etc. — is not considered to be a preventative care service.
Also, the University-sponsored Graduate Assistant Health Plan requires copayment for services.
