Statement on Federal Guidelines on Gender
On June 12, 2020, the U.S. government announced a new rule that would remove gender identity and sex stereotyping in the definition of sex discrimination, potentially affecting protections for transgender and LGBTQIA+ individuals from healthcare discrimination. This rule change would allow insurance plans to limit the definition of gender to “male” and “female.”
In light of this, we here at Boynton Health want to reassure you that we condemn all forms of discrimination in the care we provide to our community and in the programs, services and insurance plans we manage. Our mission is to advance the physical, emotional and social well-being of the University community through our expertise in college health and we firmly believe no one should be turned away from health care.
Those who have experienced discrimination or harassment based on their gender identity or expression can contact EOAA, which is available to address these concerns through informal problem-solving or through formal investigation to determine whether the University’s anti-discrimination policy has been violated.
