The following training programs are available to University of Minnesota employees through the Training Hub:

  • Student mental health at (your campus) - prerequisite module
  • Making effective referrals
  • Listening effectively to student mental health concerns
  • Responding appropriately to student mental health concerns
  • Situations of student suicidality
  • The impact of identity and oppression on student mental health
  • Beyond the individual: promoting mental health for groups of students
  • Taking action to promote student mental health: applied project

What is the time commitment for Mental Health Training?

  • The program includes eight 20-minute modules available through the Training Hub for a total commitment of less than three hours. This training series is fully asynchronous.
  • To earn the Mental Health Advocate certificate, you can expect to spend three hours learning in modules and up to five hours working on an applied project. 

Note: The applied project is not additional work for your job; it is a framework to apply when doing an existing component of your everyday role.

University faculty & staff who engage with students in any way will benefit from Mental Health Training. The skills and information in these modules will help you in your professional role and personal relationships.
