What should I bring to my travel consultation?
Bring a list of all the countries you visit, including airport layovers and past vaccination records.
Who can be seen in the Boynton Travel Clinic?
We are open to all UMN students and their dependents. Patients must be 12 years and older.
How long is my travel consultation?
Please allow 90 minutes for the travel clinic appointment; this breaks down into a 45-minute consultation with the provider, followed by up to 45 minutes with a nurse or pharmacist who will administer your vaccinations and update your yellow card.
Will my health insurance cover my travel consultation and vaccines?
Travel Consultation
- Most US insurance plans do not cover the cost of the travel clinic consultation.
- For UMN students enrolled full-time and paying student service fees (SSF), the Boynton Travel Clinic consultation cost may be fully covered, in contrast to travel care off campus.
Travel Vaccinations
- US insurance plans may not cover certain travel vaccinations, e.g., cholera, Japanese encephalitis, rabies (preexposure prophylaxis), typhoid, and yellow fever.
- For UMN students enrolled full-time and paying student service fees (SSF), even if the travel consultation is fully covered, the travel vaccinations may not be covered by private US insurance plans.
- For UMN students enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP), all travel vaccinations are fully covered except for the oral cholera vaccine, which is covered at 80%.
- All travel vaccinations are fully covered for UMN students enrolled in the Graduate Assistant Health Plan (GAHP).
