Eye Exams

Comprehensive eye exams are important even if you have perfect vision. Your optometrist can determine if corrective lenses would help you see more clearly and comfortably. Eye exams not only assess your vision but your overall eye health.

Serious eye conditions may not initially have any symptoms, and early detection can prevent permanent loss of vision. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disease, autoimmune diseases and certain cancers often have signs that can be detected during an exam.

Students who have paid the Student Services Fee receive one comprehensive eye exam (excludes exam for contact lenses) per year at Boynton at no out-of-pocket cost.

Optical Shop

Our optical shop has a wide variety of frames to fit your style. We offer popular options including digital lenses for "hidef" vision, high index material for thin, lightweight lenses, and progressive lenses for clear vision at any distance. Blu Tech lenses are available for computer use. We also carry a wide variety of sunglasses and stylish reading glasses.

Everyone with a University of Minnesota identification card (ID) receives 20% off a full set of glasses.

Our skilled opticians can help you find the perfect frame. Bring in your current prescription, or make an appointment with one of our optometrists for a new prescription.

We can adjust your glasses for a better fit, make minor repairs, and replace screws and nose pieces. There are no charges for these services.

We carry lens cleaners, treatments that prevent fogging when wearing masks, and other optical accessories.

If you are not satisfied with your current contacts we can help update your prescription or refit you with different lenses.

Contact lens products and services are not covered by the student service fees.
