Sumana Shankar Damery is a Midwesterner at heart. Born to Indian immigrants, she grew up in Northern Illinois and earned her undergraduate degree from Grinnell College in Iowa. After spending ten years on the East Coast—New York City and Boston, where she earned her Master of Education in Counseling—Sumana returned to her central-time roots to join the team at Boynton’s mental health clinic. Sumana approaches counseling through the lens of narrative therapy, and she values collaborating with clients to develop their unique stories. She positions herself shoulder-to-shoulder with her clients and strives to decolonize her practice by connecting with her cultural roots, especially through her study of yogic philosophy. When she is not at work, she is commonly found forcing her spouse to watch dog videos on the internet.
