Nicotine is a sneaky culprit. Long before you realize the habit might be harsher than you thought, it has yanked the control directly from your grip. Coming to the realization that nicotine use is more severe than you thought is never easy, but luckily you are not alone, and there are various resources to choose from. When you’re ready to ask for help, Boynton Health’s Tobacco Cessation Coaching supports you with personalized coaching.

Ready to break up with your vape? Here are a few tips to get started:

1. Set a date

Mark your calendar for your start date whenever you feel comfortable.

2. Create accountability by telling friends and family or identifying a support person.

Your community is here to support you through this journey. Telling your family and friends creates accountability to stay on track with your goals. However, this may not be one-size-fits-all. If you’re uncomfortable telling your friends, identify a support person to look to hold you up.

3. Out of sight, out of mind

While lacking the nuance of the situation, cleaning up your environment can benefit your situation. By clearing your space of clutter and lingering smells, you will begin this process with a clearer mind.

4. Give yourself grace

You aren’t doing this alone, but no one can do it but you. Remembering to recognize your efforts and be kind to yourself in this transition.

5. Find new hobbies to replace habits.

You can determine your stressors and a replacement habit by identifying the new triggers that may cause you to reach for your vape. This habit can be filled with positive thoughts or actions. Use your excess energy during this time to find a new hobby and keep your hands busy.

6. Track financial success

A vape in your hand is a hole in your pocket. When the day finally comes, track your money saved and your financial progress. Nothing feels better than excess cash in your wallet and a healthier body.

7. Celebrate yourself

When the going gets tough, acknowledge your effort and how far you’ve come! You deserve to celebrate yourself and how far you’ve come.

8. Write down your reasons for quitting.

At the beginning of your journey, jot down a few reasons why you’re even bothering in the first place. If you falter down the road, the writing will serve as a reminder of what you’ve gone through and what you deserve

9. Change your plans

Sometimes plans change, and you fall off the horse. Give yourself grace and ask for help when you need it. We’re here for U at Boynton Health’s Tobacco Cessation Coaching.
