Nomcebo Nkosi, MEd, LPCC

she/her/hers

Nomcebo Nkosi was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. Before moving with her family to the USA in 2007, Nkoisa studied and obtained a Masters in Migration Studies from Wits University in Johannesburg. She worked with international organizations on human rights, refugees, and asylum seekers. In the US, she lived in Athens, Ohio, and studied at Ohio University. From 2013-2018 Nomcebo worked with adolescents, adults, and families from different backgrounds. Her experience included working with individuals with various mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, trauma, racism, and other life stressors. Nomcebo is aware of the stigma associated with mental health, particularly in diverse communities.

Regarding mental well-being, Nomcebo finds "there's no one size fits all." This leads her to take an integrative holistic approach toward psychotherapy. The collaborative process allows individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings and find the autonomy to be themselves. Nomcebo is passionate about working with multicultural and marginalized populations. This involves empathic listening, compassion, interconnection, empowerment, and restoration. Coming from South Africa, the concept of Ubuntu ("I am Because We Are") is the African philosophy close to her heart. So is the quote by Bishop Tutu, "Umuntu umuntu ngabantu"— translated—”My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together."
