Derek Otte, MSW, LICSW

He/Him/His

Every person deserves to be listened to and understood. Regardless of who you are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done, there is a basic goodness in you and valid reasons for the perspective you have and the emotions you feel. Participating in therapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself through increasing awareness of emotions, thoughts, and habits; discover useful ways to deal with difficult and painful emotions; and recover from traumatic and painful experiences. All of these enable you to build and maintain a healthy relationship with yourself which in turn improves the relationships you have with others.

Derek Otte is here to help with that process by providing supportive listening, non judgmental observations, and skills coaching. Derek utilizes the following therapy approaches: dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT). He values empathy, humor, creativity, and learning all of which guide his approach to therapy as well.

Derek enjoys working with all students to help them discover their unique strengths, build resilience, and live more purposeful and healthy lives. He is bound by ethical code and personal conviction to be fully affirming and supportive of others' religious beliefs, traditions, cultural backgrounds, nationalities, sexual and relational preferences, gender identities, racial and ethnic identities, economic backgrounds, abilities, body types, age, education level, and neurology. All people are deserving of help.
